Daniela moved back to the neighborhood and never told Alfred where she lived. He showed up at her front door anyway. The street dog she used to feed was sitting outside when she opened it.
Alfred had been part of her daily routine months earlier, when she fed him along with roughly ten other street dogs in the area. She moved away, came back, and kept her new address to herself. In the video she posted as @danielakvicente, Alfred waits at the open door while two of her daughters run out to greet him. He gives her his paw when she asks for it, leans into scratches under his chin, and eventually stretches out on the floor like he has always lived there.
Nobody can say exactly how he found the place. What dogs do have is a memory for people and places that lasts longer than most owners expect, along with a nose that reads a neighborhood in ways we cannot follow. A regular feeding spot becomes a landmark, and the person who turns up there becomes part of the map.
That cuts two ways. If you feed a stray on a schedule, keep the schedule, because the dog may depend on it more than you realize. And if you move house with a dog of your own, expect a stretch of confusion. Keep walks, meals, and bedtimes as close to the old routine as you can for the first few weeks.
