Northwest Naturals is recalling two raw pet food products after FDA testing found Salmonella and Listeria in them. Announced August 28, the recall covers the Frozen Raw Diet for Dogs Chicken Recipe and the Frozen Chicken Recipe, also sold as a protein topper for dogs.
The affected dog product is the Frozen Raw Diet for Dogs Chicken Recipe, 6 lb bag, lot B-19, Best By 01/25/2028, UPC 087316380392. Also recalled is the Frozen Chicken Recipe, 2 lb bag, lot B-5, Best By 01/26/2028, UPC 087316384956. Both were sold at retail stores nationwide.
The FDA found Salmonella in the Frozen Chicken Recipe and both Listeria monocytogenes and Salmonella in the Frozen Raw Diet for Dogs Chicken Recipe. No illnesses have been reported so far.
Salmonella and Listeria can make dogs sick and can also spread to people who handle the food or touch bowls and surfaces it touched. Pregnant women, older adults, and anyone with a weakened immune system face the highest risk.
What you should do now
- Stop feeding either recalled product and check the lot code on the bag. Only lot B-19 (6 lb dog recipe) and lot B-5 (2 lb chicken recipe) are affected.
- Return the unused portion to the place of purchase for a full refund.
- Contact Northwest Naturals at 1-866-637-1872 (Monday through Thursday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Pacific) or recallinfo@nw-naturals.net.
- Wash and sanitize food bowls, utensils, and surfaces the food touched, and wash your hands thoroughly after handling it.
- Watch your dog for lethargy, diarrhea or bloody diarrhea, fever, vomiting, decreased appetite, or abdominal pain. If your dog ate the recalled food and shows any of these signs, call your veterinarian.
- People who handled the food should watch for nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, cramping, and fever, and contact a doctor if any appear.
