Some dogs get adopted in a week. Hashbrown waited 1,502 days, which works out to a little over four years.
He arrived at The Runaways Animal Rescue as a small puppy with spinal malformations, which the rescue has compared to scoliosis in people. Specialists evaluated him and he went through extensive physical therapy. The conclusion was that he would never walk the way most dogs do.

Hashbrown did not treat that as a problem. He learned to race around on his front legs, got a custom wheelchair, and developed a bunny hop that made him a small internet celebrity. Videos of him landed a WeRateDogs segment tied to Ryan Seacrest’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve in 2023. The rescue started calling him the forever puppy, partly because of his young face and partly because of what was underneath it. He falls for everyone he meets, solved food puzzles faster than anyone expected, and slept each night on a dog bed beside his foster’s bed.
The takeaway is about the dogs still waiting behind him. Mobility needs scare adopters off, and they usually should not. A dog in a wheelchair still wants snacks, walks, puzzles, and company, and the rescue promised Hashbrown’s wheels would go home with whoever adopted him.
