Dogs who can fall asleep absolutely anywhere

Funny Videos & Pics

My dog has a bed. It was not cheap. It has a washable cover and a memory foam base, and he has slept in it maybe four times. The rest of the time he picks a spot using criteria only he understands, and most of those spots look like an accident waiting to happen. These five dogs share the gift. Not one of them is asleep where you would have put them.

Belly to the sky, tongue out, nose aimed at the ceiling. That is a full surrender, not a nap. Some dogs sleep like they are sitting for a portrait, and this one knows exactly what he is doing.

Outside, mid-afternoon, on the grass, completely inverted. A dog will find a sunny patch, turn about half a circle, and fold into a shape that looks like it was dropped from a height. Then he sleeps there for an hour like it makes perfect sense.

The puppy version has all the instincts and none of the restraint. Hand a young dog a bed and he will use a third of it, upside down, with one paw in the air for no reason anyone can identify.

Wicker basket, chosen over the actual dog bed two feet away. Puppies treat furniture as a suggestion. If it has a rim, they will drape themselves over it and consider the job done.

And finally the floor. Not a rug, not a mat. Bare, cold floor, middle of the room. There is no explaining it and there is no moving him.

If your dog sleeps like this and nothing else has changed, that is just normal dog business. But if the naps have gotten longer and more frequent than usual, it is worth a look. And if the strange positions come with a lot of restless nights, here is what to check first.
