USDA considers whether to vaccinate poultry against flu

The USDA’s Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service is considering options and “soliciting input from many different industry stakeholders” on whether to authorize vaccinating poultry against avian influenza. No vaccine has been designed to work against the specific clade of highly pathogenic avian influenza that has been circulating for the past year, and scientists with the federal government are evaluating the efficacy of existing vaccines.
