After so many long months of waiting, it’s finally time to start planning your gender reveal party! It’s an exciting time for everyone, and when you’re getting ready to welcome a new member into your family, you may want to include your dog in the process.
Though there’s plenty of approaches you can take, what better way to do so than to have your dog handle the big reveal using a gender reveal cake?
What is a Dog-Friendly Gender Reveal Cake?
Though your dog can enjoy the gender reveal cake, you may have to adjust the recipe a bit. Not all of the ingredients used in your typical cake are safe for your pup to consume, so you’ll need to swap them out with some dog-friendly alternatives. Fortunately, this is quite simple to do, and the result is the perfect gender reveal cake for your pup to enjoy!
Tricks for Creating the Reveal
As for the cake itself, you have a number of options for how you want the reveal to happen. We’ve listed a few of the most popular methods, so you can be sure your gender reveal cake is a hit with both your party guests and your pups!
Colorful Cake Crumb
This method is quick, easy, and excellent for making your dog-friendly gender reveal cake. All you have to do is make the cake batter as normal, but before baking, toss in some pink or blue dye. Once you’ve finished baking the cake, finish by coating it in neutral-colored frosting, and serve! As your pup starts snacking, the color of the cake will reveal itself!
Layered Frosting Cakes
Just as simple as the colored cake crumb method, making your dog-friendly gender reveal cake with layered frosting is perfect for those who enjoy the decorating process more than the baking itself. As with the cake crumb method, frost the outer layers of the cake with a neutral color, and use pink or blue on the inner layers, so that the big reveal will come as your pup chows down!

Frosting Bomb Cakes
If you’ve decided to have cupcakes at your gender reveal party rather than the traditional large cake, the frosting bomb method is perfect. Simply hollow out the cupcake, fill it with blue or pink frosting, and top it off with neutral-colored frosting! The big reveal will come as soon as it’s bitten into, along with a sugary burst of flavor that’ll be a hit with guests and pups alike!
The “Smash” Cake
For a bit of an unconventional option, the smash cake method is perfect. Start by preparing a dog-friendly bundt cake as you would normally. Then, fill the hole with blue or pink frosting, and cover it up with your dog’s favorite treats, such as bacon, cheese, or jerky. As your dog digs into the treat in the center, you’ll be able to reveal your baby’s gender to the guests!
