The holiday season is full of hustle and bustle here at Godspeed Animal Care, and we know how easy it is to get lost in everything. It is important, though, to take some time to remember those who are most precious to us. For many of us, at the top of our list are our pets. Join in Holiday Events for Pets
If you know where to look, there are lots of fun holiday events for pets happening all around us. Check out a few of our favorites:
- Roanoke Times Dickens of a Christmas—Take a little trip December 17 to participate in the pet costume contest during this festive holiday celebration.
- Toyland Parade—Bring out your dogs and kids for the Yorktown Toyland Parade and Farmer’s Market on December 12.
- Take a stroll—Take Fido out for a festive walk down Duke of Glouchester Street (otherwise known as DoG Street) to take in the sights of the season.
- Heritage Humane Society’s Holiday Bazaar—Ongoing through December 11th, pick up a special holiday treat for your furry friend and help some homeless pets. How much more holiday spirit could you get?
- Visit the Holiday Fur Tree—Take a trip up St. Francis Street with your beloved pet to visit the Holiday Fur Tree and buy a ribbon in your pet’s name to honor the Heritage Humane Society.

Create Your Own Cheer
For pets (and people) who prefer to be homebodies, there are still plenty of options for celebrating. Consider the following fun and festive ideas:
- Stage a home (or even professional) holiday photo shoot for your pet to share with family and friends
- Spend the day baking pet-friendly holiday treats
- Watch your favorite holiday movie snuggled in a cozy blanket with your best furry friend
- Have a small holiday get together with your pet’s best four-legged friend (if they are social pups)
- Make some homemade low-sugar applesauce for your pet to enjoy as you eat some latkes
- Take a drive or walk through a well-decorated neighborhood near you
- Take your pet to visit a loved one who will appreciate the extra fur
- Use any fresh snowfall to your advantage and enjoy a walk outside or sledding with the family (those with four paws included)
- Fill a special stocking just for your pet
- Play ball with your pet during the ball drop
With a little creativity, there are a lot of things that you can do to celebrate. With some planning, holiday events for pets can be safe and fun. Don’t leave out your furry friend this holiday season, memories with paws can be great ones.
