ATTN: J.M. Smucker Co. Pulls Two Flavors Of Pup-Peroni After Recieving Multiple Complaints Of Mold

The J.M Smucker company has announced that they are “withdrawing” multiple lots of their popular Pup-Peroni treats after several complaints were made online regarding mold.

Concerned pet parents have been posting photos of spotty, discolored Pup-Peroni treats for months now, claiming that their brand-new packages of the popular treat were contaminated with mold. In response to multiple claims, J.M. Smucker has initiated a withdrawal – not a recall – of two Pup-Peroni flavors: Original Beef and Triple Steak. If you have purchased any Pup-Peroni snacks recently, you can check whether your products are on the list below.

“While we continue to evaluate the issue, the data we currently have does not suggest a food safety risk and we are coordinating this withdrawal out of an abundance of caution.”

A long list of potentially affected products was released, and the J.M. Smucker Co. is encouraging retailers to destroy any packages they might have received that are listed here. As for pet parents – be sure to check the list against any treats you have in your pantry and double-check ANY Pup-Peroni before you give your pups a snack. It has been suggested that the two flavors listed may not be the only ones containing mold.

According to Petful, complaints began a few months ago, as consumers opened their brand-new bags of Pup-Peroni and were surprised to find mold growing in the bag and on the treats. These people took to Twitter to sound the alarm and voice their concerns to @PupPeroni.

There were multiple photos posted of a greenish-white mold covering the meaty treats, and their Twitter team addressed each concern privately and individually, but it looks as though the situation has become enough of a concern for the company that they are voluntarily pulling these products from shelves.

One upset pet parent claims that their dog actually ate moldy treats. She says that she ended up with both a hefty vet bill and a very sick, miserable dog. (The Smucker Co. has not said whether this claim has been verified.)

The company appears to be verifying the claims while doing its best to keep the pups who enjoy their treats safe.
